National Newspaper Association members concerned about inaction by Congress to protect the future of mail delivery may find a handy aid for their advocacy in a new video by the Coalition for a 21st Century Postal Service.  The 21st Century coalition, of which NNA is a member, represents a mailing industry worth more than a $1 trillion, accounting for thousands of American jobs.

Oppose Secretary Acosta's minimum wage increase

The federal Department of Labor is proposing an increase in the base salary level of exempt employees who work primarily by salary and do not receive overtime pay. The increase would be about a 50% jump in a single year from $23,660….to $35,308 annually.

NNA backing Electronic Court Records Reform Act

National Newspaper Association is throwing its weight behind a bill to ease the cost of obtaining federal court records.

Rep. Doug Collins, R-GA, introduced the Electronic Court Records Reform Act, which will require the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts to consolidate its electronic filing systems and drop the fees for general public access. The bill is similar to one he introduced in late 2018.

NNA comments on Interior FOIA rules

The US Department of Interior should make it easy for any citizen to request open records, National Newspaper Association said this week.  NNA joined 39 other news organizations in opposition of the Interior Department’s new proposed Freedom of Information Act rule.

Non-deliverable charges to nonsubscribers or nonrequesters reduced by postal-addressing rule change long sought by NNA

Periodical newspapers which mail copies to nonsubscribers or nonrequesters using specific addresses are in for some relief from burdensome Address Changes Notices (PS Form 3579, usually on a yellow sticker). The charge is now 59 cents per notice in hard copy.

National Newspaper Association Calls Again For Postal Discounts For Flats Tubs

The National Newspaper Association today asked the Postal Regulatory Commission once again to examine the prices for newspapers’ use of white flats trays (tubs) commonly used for mailings outside the local postal delivery office. NNA has been seeking discounts on these tubs since 2006.
