SPRINGFIELD, IL — Mike Buffington, editor and co-publisher of the Jackson Herald in Jefferson, GA, will be presented with the James O. Amos Award on Sept. 29 during the National Newspaper Association’s 132nd Annual Convention & Trade Show in Norfolk, VA.

Oppose Secretary Acosta's minimum wage increase

The federal Department of Labor is proposing an increase in the base salary level of exempt employees who work primarily by salary and do not receive overtime pay. The increase would be about a 50% jump in a single year from $23,660….to $35,308 annually.

NNA backing Electronic Court Records Reform Act

National Newspaper Association is throwing its weight behind a bill to ease the cost of obtaining federal court records.

Rep. Doug Collins, R-GA, introduced the Electronic Court Records Reform Act, which will require the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts to consolidate its electronic filing systems and drop the fees for general public access. The bill is similar to one he introduced in late 2018.

NNA comments on Interior FOIA rules

The US Department of Interior should make it easy for any citizen to request open records, National Newspaper Association said this week.  NNA joined 39 other news organizations in opposition of the Interior Department’s new proposed Freedom of Information Act rule.

Newspapers in Education and STEM serial story available to NNA members

Teachers asked for STEM-related materials and the Missouri Press Foundation’s Newspapers in Education answered. The 2019 serial story, Mr. Eads Bridge, written by Duane Porter, combines STEM and history for an engaging time-travel tale.
