NNA welcomes the support of KS, MO senators in preserving universal mail service

Legislation to provide the U.S. Postal Service with the ability to continue to restructure without diminishing mail service is critical in the 114th Congress, as a slow economy and electronic diversion change the mail. That is why the National Newspaper Association welcomed the support of Sens. Jerry Moran, R-KS; Roy Blunt, R-MO and Claire McCaskill, D-MO, as they signed onto S. 2051, the iPOST Act introduced this year by Sen. Tom Carper, D-DE.

Valassis special postage deal goes out with a whimper

The long struggle between the newspaper industry and Valassis Inc. over the direct mail company’s special postage discounts from the U.S. Postal Service appears to have ended with a whimper. In November, Valassis filed a report saying it had carried out no mailings eligible for the special discount. It announced it had paid an agreed $100,000 penalty to USPS last September.

NNA announces workshop for printers that mail newspapers

The complexities of managing Periodicals newspapers in the mail have ballooned in the past decade as consolidated printing operations and the digital tools of the U.S. Postal Service have reshaped the industry. The National Newspaper Association announces its first-ever workshop for Periodicals printers, set for March 16, 2016, at the Crystal City Marriott in Arlington VA.


Hutcheson appreciates what NNA does for newspapers

For the second time in its 130-year history, a Kentucky publisher has become president of the prestigious National Newspaper Association. John (Chip) Hutcheson III, publisher of The Times Leader in Princeton, KY, and The Eagle Post in Oak Grove, KY, began a 12-month term during NNA’s convention Oct. 1-3 in St. Charles, MO.

Chip Hutcheson, publisher of The Princeton (KY) Times Leader, was elected president of the National Newspaper Association during the association’s 129th annual convention and trade show Oct. 3, 2015. He had been vice president.

National Newspaper Association President Chip Hutcheson, publisher of The Times Leader in Princeton, KY, announced in October that NNA has selected Illinois Press Association to provide contract management services beginning in 2016.

National Newspaper Association President John Edgecombe Jr., publisher of The Nebraska Signal in Geneva, NE, today announced that the Illinois Press Association, based in Springfield, IL, would become NNA’s new management firm beginning January 2016.

NNA to honor three with 2015 Amos, McKinney and Phillips awards

William F. Tubbs, Barbara A. Walter and Jeremy Waltner will be honored during the National Newspaper Association’s 2015 Annual Convention & Trade Show in St. Charles, MO, where they will be presented with the James O. Amos Award, the Emma C. McKinney Award and the Daniel M. Phillips Leadership Award, respectively, at the association’s business luncheon on Oct. 3, 2015.
